About the R33 GT-R

The R33 Skyline GT-R, chassis code BCNR33, was unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 1995 and built until 1998. It keeps the 2.6-litre RB26DETT twin-turbo straight six and five-speed manual gearbox from the R32, in a longer car with Brembo brakes and 17-inch wheels as standard. Unlike the R32, the V-spec was offered from launch, with ATTESA E-TS Pro and an active rear LSD.

There are three series. Series 1 cars date from 1995. The January 1996 update brought a standard passenger airbag and a new steering wheel. The February 1997 update is the one that matters most for parts: xenon headlamps, a deeper front lip with extra cooling ducts, a rear fog lamp, extra rear chassis bracing and revised ABS. In 1996 Nissan also sold the Champion Blue LM Limited, and NISMO built the 2.8-litre 400R.

Because of those changes, a part that fits one R33 may not fit another. Every product page has a "Vehicles this part fits" table. Check it against your car's series and grade, and if you're not sure, get in touch with those details before you order. On cars this age it is also worth checking what is actually fitted, as clutches, brakes and wheels are often changed.

R33 GT-R fitment notes

  • Series 1 (from Jan 1995): the original car.
  • Series 2 (from Jan 1996): passenger airbag as standard, new steering wheel and revised dash trim.
  • Series 3 (from Feb 1997): xenon headlamps, deeper front lip with extra ducts, rear fog lamp, rear floor brace and revised ABS.
  • Drive: standard cars use ATTESA E-TS. The V-spec uses ATTESA E-TS Pro with an active rear LSD.
  • LM Limited (May 1996): Champion Blue, standard or V-spec, with N1-type bumper ducts, bonnet-top moulding and a carbon centre rear spoiler.
  • NISMO 400R (1996): 2.8-litre RB-X GT2 engine, twin-plate clutch, overfenders and 18-inch wheels. Many engine and body parts differ from a standard R33, so ask us before ordering.

  • Clutch and gearbox: pull-type clutch and five-speed FS5R30A gearbox throughout.

R33 GT-R parts: common questions

Which years was the R33 GT-R made?

The BCNR33 went on sale in January 1995 and was built until 1998. It had updates in January 1996 (Series 2) and February 1997 (Series 3).

Is the R33 GT-R clutch push-type or pull-type?

Every R33 GT-R left the factory with a pull-type clutch and the five-speed FS5R30A gearbox. Conversions do happen, so check the release bearing and slave cylinder before you order.

Do R32 GT-R parts fit my R33 GT-R?

Many engine and gearbox parts do, as both use the RB26DETT and the five-speed FS5R30A gearbox. R32s built from February 1993 share the R33's pull-type clutch, while earlier R32s are push-type. The R33's Brembo brakes are the same family as the R32 V-spec's. Body panels differ because the R33 is a longer car. Check the "Vehicles this part fits" table on each product.

Which twin-plate clutch suits an R33 GT-R?

What is the difference between the standard R33 GT-R and the V-spec?

The standard car uses ATTESA E-TS. The V-spec adds ATTESA E-TS Pro with an active rear LSD, so some drivetrain and electronics parts differ.

What brakes does the R33 GT-R have?

Every R33 GT-R has Brembo calipers, 4-pot at the front and 2-pot at the rear, with 324mm front and 300mm rear discs. Brakes are often upgraded, so measure the disc if you're unsure.

What are the R33 GT-R wheel size and bolt pattern?

Standard wheels are 17 x 9J, offset +30, on 245/45ZR17 tyres. The bolt pattern is 5x114.3 with M12 x 1.25 wheel nuts and a 66.1mm centre bore.
