About the R32 GT-R

The R32 Skyline GT-R, chassis code BNR32, went on sale in Japan in August 1989, and production ended in late 1994. Every one has the 2.6-litre RB26DETT twin-turbo straight six, a five-speed manual gearbox, ATTESA E-TS four-wheel drive and Super HICAS rear steer. Many engine and drivetrain parts are shared with the R33 and R34 GT-R, so many parts here also suit those cars.

Over five years the car changed more than most people expect. A minor change in August 1991 brought brighter H1 headlamp bulbs, side-impact beams and a stronger block and crank. The February 1993 update matters most for parts: the clutch changed from push-type to pull-type, the gearbox synchros were revised, and the V-spec arrived with Brembo brakes and 17-inch BBS wheels. Standard cars kept the Sumitomo brakes and 16-inch wheels to the end.

Because of those changes, a part that fits one R32 may not fit another. Every product page has a "Vehicles this part fits" table. Check it against your car's build date and grade. If you're not sure, send us both before you order. On cars this age it is also worth checking what is actually fitted, as clutches and brakes are often swapped.

R32 GT-R fitment notes

  • Early cars (Aug 1989 to Aug 1991): H3C headlamp bulbs, push-type clutch.
  • Mid cars (from Aug 1991): H1 headlamp bulbs, side-impact beams, revised crank and stronger block, push-type clutch.
  • Late cars (from Feb 1993, chassis numbers from BNR32-300001): pull-type clutch and revised gearbox synchros.
  • Standard brakes: Sumitomo 4-pot front and 2-pot rear, 296 x 32mm front and 297 x 18mm rear discs, 16-inch wheels.
  • V-spec (Feb 1993) and V-spec II (Feb 1994): Brembo 4-pot front and 2-pot rear, 324 x 30mm front and 300 x 22mm rear discs, the same Brembo family as the R33 GT-R. 17-inch BBS wheels, 225/50R17 on the V-spec and 245/45R17 on the V-spec II. See our guide to choosing GT-R brake rotors (/guides/gtr-brake-rotors).
  • Drive: every R32 GT-R uses ATTESA E-TS. The V-spec has revised ATTESA logic, but ATTESA E-TS Pro only arrived with the R33.
  • GT-R NISMO (Mar 1990): Group A homologation car with metal-wheel turbos and no ABS or air con.
  • N1 (Jul 1991): race base with no ABS or air con, brake cooling guides and non-drilled discs. Later N1 cars follow the V-spec and V-spec II.
  • Gearbox: five-speed FS5R30A. The R34's six-speed Getrag is a different box.
  • Wheels: 5x114.3 PCD, M12 x 1.25 wheel nuts, 66.1mm centre bore.
  • Blow-off valves: see our Skyline blow-off valve guide (/guides/skyline-blow-off-valve) before you choose one.

R32 GT-R parts: common questions

Which years was the R32 GT-R made?

The BNR32 went on sale in August 1989, and production ended in late 1994. It had minor changes in August 1991 and February 1993.

Is my R32 GT-R clutch push-type or pull-type?

Cars built before the February 1993 update use a push-type clutch, and later cars use a pull-type clutch. Many cars have been converted since, so check the release bearing, fork and slave cylinder before you order.

Do I have the early narrow oil pump drive?

Early RB26DETT engines have a narrow oil pump drive on the crankshaft, and Nissan later lengthened it. A crank collar is a common fix for the early type. Check your engine before you order an oil pump or collar, or ask us.

What brakes does my R32 GT-R have?

Standard cars have Sumitomo calipers with 296mm front and 297mm rear discs. The V-spec and V-spec II have Brembo calipers with 324mm front and 300mm rear discs. Brakes are often upgraded, so measure the disc if you're unsure.

What is the difference between the V-spec and V-spec II?

Both have Brembo brakes, 17-inch BBS wheels and revised suspension and ATTESA settings. The V-spec II, from February 1994, changed only the tyres, from 225/50R17 to 245/45R17.

What are the R32 GT-R wheel bolt pattern and nut size?

5x114.3 PCD with M12 x 1.25 wheel nuts and a 66.1mm centre bore, the same as the R33 and R34 GT-R.
