When the GR6's clutch packs slip, the revs rise without the car pulling harder. Here are the usual causes, when the TCM clutch relearn is needed and the parts we list. Have any fault checked by a specialist first.
The usual causes
- Torque: a tune can make more torque than the stock clutch packs hold.
- Heat: track use and repeated launches add clutch wear.
- Learned values: after work inside the gearbox, the TCM's learned clutch values need resetting.
The TCM clutch relearn
The clutch learn recalibrates the clutch touch points. Tools such as Cobb's have a routine. Each needs the gearbox warm and sets its own temperatures, so follow your tool's own guide. A specialist should run it and check the learned values.
Launch control
There is no proven safe number of launches. Keep them occasional and let the gearbox cool.
When to upgrade the packs
Past the stock limit, uprated packs are the usual next step. Dodson's Superstock, Sportsman's and Promax kits step up in strength, and Dodson rates the Promax 10 for builds up to about 2,500 hp.
