Noises Nissan calls normal
Nissan's owner's manual says gear clearances, the light flywheel and dry-sump lubrication cause rattles that do not mean a fault. Noises can be louder when the gearbox is hot, and you may hear clattering on shifts.
Noises to get checked
- A new or worsening metallic rattle, loudest at idle and low revs: see a specialist.
- A new or worsening clunk, or a noise that changes with revs: see a specialist.
Dodson gearsets
Dodson says its Extreme Duty 1-6 gearset has optimised tooth designs and an improved helical angle. Dodson doesn't publish a noise figure, so ask your specialist about gear noise before you choose.
What to ask a GR6 specialist
Epic GTR does not rebuild gearboxes. Ask your specialist:
- Have you rebuilt R35 GR6 gearboxes before?
- Can you run the TCM clutch relearn after the work?
- Will you fit the Dodson or OEM parts I choose?
- Will you tell me which parts you are replacing, and why, before you start?
