Haltech vs Link plug-in ECU for the Skyline GT-R

Haltech and Link both make plug-in ECUs for the R32, R33 and R34 GT-R. Neither is right for every car. Your tuner should help you choose.

Haltech Nexus

The Nexus plug-in covers the R32, R33 and R34 GT-R, and it can take over ATTESA control.

Link G4X GTR plug-in

The Link fits the factory ECU enclosure. It has onboard MAP, CAN and data logging, and supports e-throttle. Link lists it for manual-transmission cars. ATTESA control is not listed by Link.

MoTeC M1 ECUs (M130 and M150)

MoTeC's M130 and M150 are port injection ECUs from its M1 range. MoTeC sells them as general purpose ECUs, so each one is licensed with a package for your engine and has to be connected to the car's wiring.

  • RB26 support: MoTeC's GPR package lists a Nissan RB26 engine synchronisation mode.
  • Size: MoTeC lists the M130 for up to 8 cylinders with one CAN bus, and the M150 for up to 12 cylinders with three CAN buses.
  • Features: for its GPR package, MoTeC lists drive by wire, traction control, launch control, anti-lag, gear change ignition cut, flex fuel operation and data logging.
  • Gearbox: MoTeC lists its GPR package for manual gearboxes, and its GPRP package for sequential manual gearboxes with paddle shift.
  • Plug-in kits: other companies make kits that fit an M1 ECU to the Skyline GT-R's factory wiring. Powertune Australia makes the "Powertune M130 Plugin ECU Kit for Nissan Skyline R32/R33/R34 GTR (RB26)" and the "Powertune M150 Plugin ECU Kit for Nissan Skyline R32/R33/R34 GTR (RB26)". Powertune Australia says each kit includes the MoTeC ECU, custom firmware, a fully populated patch loom and a base map, and lists in-built ATTESA control. Art of Assembly offers the "MoTec Plug and Play Kit - Nissan Skyline RB26 GTR R32, R33, R34", based on the M130.

Why you might choose one: if your build adds features such as a sequential gearbox, anti-lag, a bigger fuel system or E85, a fully programmable standalone ECU can be set up to control them. Check that the ECU and package you choose support every feature you need. MoTeC's own package pages don't list ATTESA control, so ask your tuner how ATTESA would be handled with the setup you choose. Your tuner should help you choose and will need to tune it.

FAQ

Which plug-in ECU controls ATTESA?

The Haltech Nexus can take over ATTESA control. ATTESA control is not listed by Link for its GTR plug-in.

Does the Link G4X fit inside the factory ECU case?

Yes. The GTR plug-in fits the factory enclosure.

When might a MoTeC ECU suit my GT-R?

MoTeC's M130 and M150 are M1 ECUs licensed with a package such as GPR, which MoTeC lists with an RB26 engine mode, drive by wire, traction control, launch control, anti-lag and flex fuel. They may suit builds that add features like a sequential gearbox or E85. Plug-in kits for the R32, R33 and R34 GT-R are made by companies such as Powertune Australia and Art of Assembly. Ask your tuner which ECU suits your build.

Do you map ECUs?

No. We supply the ECU. Have it fitted and mapped by a specialist tuner.
